Do you have habits ?

I have one I absolutely love.

I notice things.

Big things, little things and everything in-between.

These usually unnoticed things weave their way into my stories somehow. The way a girl laughs too loud for too long because she wants to fill in an awkward silence. Two friends talking to each other while they’re seated across from each other but their eyes keep flitting away to other things.

I notice these moments and my brain nicely tucks them away into the recesses of my mind until a Sola Cole or an Abby needs to bond with another character while I write.

Why Small Details Matter

When you read a love story, it’s easy to focus on the flashy times, the meet-cute, the swoon moments, the big fights and even sweeter make-up moments…

But what makes those moments truly believable are the small details that build up the mood before it gets flashy. Like when someone avoids eye contact when they’re lying, or the way another person always notices when someone is cold and quietly offers their jacket.

A truly captivating story, to me, is built in those details.

A Small Detail from Me

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had beautiful moments, both quiet and flashy happening. My work, and the heart behind it, has been featured across a few platforms. I already mentioned the TedX event happening next Thursday at the University of Greater Manchester, didn’t I?

It still feels a little surreal to see me or my stories described from the outside.

This time I was featured across multiple news publications and you can read about it here; Rising Nigerian Storyteller Ogugua Ajayi Champions African Romance on the Global Stage

It’s not just being featured that tickles me. It’s seeing a consistent theme through all the features; Storytelling – Love – African Romance

It reminds me that I’m on the path I chose. I’m holding onto that reminder.

A New Place to Find Me

It definitely is a different kind of space.

But it’s the same Ogugua heart. If that’s more your thing, let’s 👇🏽

Ogugua Today

Lately, it’s been busier than usual but I am keeping track with my to-do list and Forever Yours is still in the works to be published in June.

Oops!

Did I just leak a release date?

🤭😁🤗
